For those of you who may not know, Vancouver is a dream come true if you love all things Asian; anime, manga, sushi, dim sum, you name it and Vancouver has it. I moved to Canada in 2003 and having had virtually no prior exposure to Asian culture, every Asian mall or area of the city left me eager for more; I honestly couldn't get enough! When I wasn't taking the bus to Asian strip malls, I was taking trip after trip to T & T, the local Asian supermarket chain, and buying the most random things. Everything seemed so magical and full of novelty to me, it was like taking a mini vacation every day. Within the first 6 months of living here I had completely burned myself out on noodles; T&T literally has an two entire aisles of asian noodles. Ramen lovers, eat your heart out, seriously. During that time I also acquired way more Hello Kitty themed items than a grown adult could ever need. In all the years I've lived here, I've slowly learned to control myself in Asian malls and supermarkets, but every once in a while I pop in to check out the goodies. Yesterday I did just this, and of course, I took my camera along. I managed to control myself and only bought two things, which I am going to give away to two lucky readers! Keep reading for the pictures and to enter a giveaway where you can win your very own Training Chopsticks!
The entry to Yoko Yaya 123. I'm not sure why it's called 1-2-3, since it has items from like $1 up to $100, but whatever. I guess Yoko Yaya 1-2-3-4-5-6... is just too long a name!
A wonderful little ride-on toy outside the entrance. Aias was asleep so he missed out on this.
This was on the side of a travel bento box container. I've never heard the term Lube Sheep before...
Just in case there was any question as to whether or not the microwave oven could be used.
Not gonna lie... I wanted this. I really just can't think of any use for a tray right now. If I can think of a use, this tray will be mine.
I ask myself this each day.
I like the phrase "finger sack" so much more than "finger condom." I also like how these finger sacks have a floral theme. Even something as unglamorous as finger condoms can be made fashionable by the Japanese!
I just... what do I even say about this? Glamour Cute!
Adorable. I feel like some of these random phrases would be great usernames. Should I change this blog named to Lovely Piglet? Perhaps Glamour Cute?
I dedicate this image to Irene over at The Crafting Hobbit!
This shop has tons of high quality felt; none of the 3 for $1 stuff I had coveted in the past. I just really don't need any fancy felt just yet! But yes, this did make me want to make some original goods!
I'm not sure how I feel about this message from a feminist standpoint...
I just photographed these because they looked like some weird sort of drug or something. I think we actually have some homeopathic pills that look exactly like this, but cost more than the $2 they want for it at this shop.
Now it's time for the:
Super Fun Kitschy Japanese Training Chopstick Giveaway!
I saw these chopsticks and I couldn't resist. I had only seen them once before, and that was at Buy Buy Baby in the states and they cost more than $10 a pair. We actually already have a similar pair for Aias, so I didn't buy any for myself. For some reason I felt like there is probably someone out there who would think these were a hoot and want them for their kid, so I picked up two pairs so that two of you can enjoy them. These ones were only a couple of bucks, but they are the kind of thing I don't think too many people could find in their area even if they looked everywhere. I basically just think they are really cute and awesome and I hope you guys do too, because I think your kids will agree! I also think they'd be great for an adult who wants to learn how to use chopsticks, so long as they are pretty shameless ;)
